We believe in the Good News of Jesus Christ, proclaimed in the Bible!

Specifically, we are part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) denomination, an evangelical denomination in the Protestant and Reformed tradition.  We accept the historic Westminster Confession of Faith as a summary of the system of doctrine taught in scripture.  More information about our denomination and its doctrinal positions can be found on the PCA website.

Here is a short summary of some of our most foundational beliefs:

The Bible

  • The 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, without error as originally given, and the only sufficient rule for Christian faith and practice.

God

  • There is one God, existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • God is eternal, holy, and infinitely perfect.  He created all things out of nothing, and rules sovereignly over the universe.

Humanity

  • God created men and women in his image, with great dignity and value, and intends that they would worship and enjoy him forever.
  • All mankind fell into sin with Adam, and are spiritually dead, unable to merit salvation, under God’s just sentence of condemnation.

Jesus

  • For his own glory, in his love and mercy, God graciously chose to save lost sinners by sending Jesus Christ to pay the penalty of sin for his elect.
  • Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
  • Jesus lived a perfect life, and died for the sins of all who will believe on him to reconcile us to God.
  • After three days, Jesus Christ rose again bodily from the grave, and went back into Heaven where he rules on the right hand of God the Father.

How We Can Be Saved

  • The Holy Spirit works in the hearts of those God calls to himself to make them spiritually alive and able to respond by trusting in Jesus Christ.
  • All who turn from their sin to God in repentance and confess Jesus as Lord, placing their faith in him alone for eternal life, will be saved.
  • Those who believe have their sins washed away and are declared righteous by God, not because of any good in themselves but by Christ’s perfect record counted to them.  Believers are graciously adopted into God’s family as his children.
  • Those who truly trust in Christ will grow in holiness as God’s Spirit works in them, enabling them more and more to die to sin, and live for righteousness.

Christ’s Return

  • At death, the souls of those who believe in Christ will immediately be with him in the presence of God and enjoy him forever, while those who rebel against God will face eternal separation and punishment.
  • Christ will come a second time and the bodies of all who have died will be raised to life, and he will judge the earth.
  • All who belong to Christ will dwell with him forever in eternal joy in the New Heavens and New Earth, but all others will be cast into Hell.
